Since it came out in 2017, the debut album by production duo The Chainsmokers is still going strong. “Memories…Do Not Open” has remained comfortably at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart.
This status sets a record for The Chainsmokers. It’s one of the few albums that have kept its No. 1 position for so long. Indeed, only one other album has kept that up for this length of time: “Demon Days” by Gorillaz. Both albums have the record of third-most No. 1 weeks on the chart. “Memories…Do Not Open” currently has its thirty-fourth non-consecutive placement on the chart.
Not bad for a debut effort! The Chainsmokers can also brag that this album arrived at No. 1 on the chart immediately upon its release. Although it’s moved up and down the chart, it’s never gone below the top 5. Other competitors have included producers Kygo, Avicii, and Calvin Harris.
It’s little wonder that “Memories…Do Not Open” is doing so well. The Chainsmokers have honed their music skills since they hit the scene in 2012. They’ve made a name for themselves with hit after hit. These have included the radio-dominating “Closer,” “Paris,” and “#Selfie.” The Chainsmokers have also become known for their remixes, which is where they got their start. They’ve given us a fresh look at songs by iconic DJ Steve Aoki, songstress Bebe Rexha, and the dance music duo Chromeo.
Since “Memories…Do Not Open” was released, The Chainsmokers have certainly kept themselves busy! Their new EP, “Sick Boy” came out this past April and the single of the same name went gold. It’s not surprising if the EP goes No. 1 too. The Chainsmokers’ style ranges from chill, tropical-house infused beats to introspective lyrics that have a darker tone. Whatever they put out, The Chainsmokers have proven that they’ve found a formula that works.
